Double Dragon for Wii Virtual Console Review

Double Dragon is a classic NES title and that certainly makes it worth revisiting through the VC. It’s an iconic title, the NES version of an arcade experience that made such a name for itself in the ’80s that it went on to give rise to an entire franchise, complete with ports, sequels, spinoffs and crossovers even a decade after its original release. There was even a Double Dragon live-action movie. (and it is really crappy)

Billy fights in basic street punk fashion at the start of the game. Skills are added as you progress through the levels, eventually opening up more powerful attacks suitable for more powerful and skillful enemies. You’ll gain a jump kick, the power to throw enemies over your shoulder, and even the ability to grab them by the hair and knee them repeatedly in the face.

Double Dragon for the NES lacks the polish of the arcade game. The fact you can’t play with 2 players, is its fatal flaw. This is likely due to the programmers being unable to fit more than three sprites on screen at once, and so if two players were playing cooperatively, only one enemy would be able to be rendered. Overall, it still holds up as one of the best fighting games for the console.

IRATE Gamer Shoots Down Super C (Contra 2) for NES

It’s the original Contra with double the enemies, coming at you from every direction. You are tortured by items you can’t reach and to top it all off the 30 lives code has been replaced by a 10 lives code. That’s awesome if you are Rambo.

IRATE Gamer is pretty funny and entertaining although he doesn’t tickle my fancy nearly as much as Angry Nintendo Nerd.

The history of Arc Hound becoming Contra Force is very interesting and redeems IRATE of most of his try-hard antics. It has some wild but flawed features. You can switch characters during the game… A second computer controlled player fights with you for five seconds.

Outnerd the Nerd - Bill and Ted NES Video Review

Yes, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Video Game Adventure blows.

In this hilarious video, the reviewer (DrewDogHimself) slams LJN. They are responsible for this crappy game in particular and are quite possibly the poorest game developer for the 8-bit era. Why in the world would you want to save Al Capone? Indeed, Drew… indeed.

Top Nintendo Comedy: Half Assed Theatre

As much as I love Angry Nintendo Nerd there is only one YouTube video blogger that makes me laugh more about classic video games: UrinatingTree. He puts on the most hilarious voices and much of it seems improvised, making it even funnier and more impressive.

The funniest UrinatingTree videos to date are the reviews of (in order of quality, dictated by my personal tastes):

  1. Hook (Sega Genesis)
  2. Heroes of The Lance (NES)
  3. Snake’s Revenge (NES)

It was tough choosing from Hook and Heroes of The Lance. Both had me chuckling big time. Don’t miss these awesome videos on YouTube! Bahh… yeah well here’s the videos right here on the blog!

Hook (Sega Genesis)

Heroes of The Lance (NES)

Snake’s Revenge (NES)

Angry Nintendo Nerd Rules OK?

If you haven’t watched James the Angry Nintendo Nerd on YouTube, you haven’t lived LIVED my friends. He’s hilarious, he swears and he drinks Rolling Rock. He’s even inspired a legion of classic gaming wannabes that do video blogs. Yeah I’m one of those wannabes (well, sort of).

If you grew up playing NES, chances are you have played the ultra-crappy title Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Yes, it sucks! And no, it hasn’t aged well. Check out this funny review and grab yourself a beer!
