Turbo Graphix 16 (TG-16) Emulators and Roms

TG-16 Remains a great classic system with some amazing shooters such as Soldier Blade and platformers like Bonk’s Adventure. If you don’t have the original console anymore, you can play games on your PC or on the Wii Virtual Console. If you choose to play on the PC, you will also have to hunt down some ROMs.

Defend Your Castle Wii Ware Review

I was attracted to Defend Your Castle when I watched the preview on the Nintendo channel for two reasons. The first reason is it’s cheap… 500 points (or the equivalent of a NES game), secondly it stands out from the pack with its retro look and violent sense of humor. After checking that I had 600 Wii points left it was the clear winner and candidate to waste an hour or so of my evening away.

Let me first warn you that the game starts slow in the regular game play mode. Unless your thumbs move in slow motion you will find yourself waiting for the real action to begin. Gameplay is mindless fun but actually quite rewarding when you are barraged by sick men, fat guys and bombers.

The action gets old quick with one player. One great way to make the game more interesting alone is to play with a wii remote in each hand and practice getting your left and right hand more in synch with each other.

2.5/5

Best Flash Arcade Sites

So you are bored at school, work and on a computer with no games installed (or a mac, hehe). You need your game fix but there isn’t a Wii, Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 in sight either! Is all hope lost? Nah.

There is an insane amount of flash arcades on the web right now so it’s quite difficult to find out what the best ones are. Here is a list of some of the cooler flash rom sites (best games, decent design and lighter on the annoying banner ads).

ET for Atari Crappiest Game of All Time

Have you ever felt like what you are doing is totally pointless? Have you ever been so frustrated by horrid game play that you wanted to burn your eyes out with a blowtorch? I don’t care buddy! You haven’t felt pain like playing the utterly crap E.T. for Atari.

So here is a video so you can get an idea of just how bad this game really is and why there are tons of cartridges buried in the dessert somewhere.

This lame commercial tried to convince poor saps to actually buy this plastic turd.

VC works better than ROMs

Oh yes, I’ve tried emulators like NESticle, ZSNES, Snes9x, Gens, Project64 and while it was a fun little ride a few years ago, none of it comes close to the VC on Wii.

The deal is everything runs smoothly on Virtual Console and since you have to pay for games (instead of scouring crappy sites loading with lame ads and spyware for a free NES ROM or two) you tend to leave the crappy ones in the dust. I haven’t got time to play crappy NES games like I once did. This site is called classic gamer for a reason. Only good games reach classic status.

There is nothing worse than playing a choppy, buggy game on a second rate emulator.

Probably the best part of playing old games on Wii is the awesome controls. I am yet to come across a game that has shamed the original release.

So first I create a post tonight slagging off VC and now I’m stroking it. Who knew??

Virtual console has entered the toilet

VC releases are definitely slowing down. The first quarter of 2008 has been lackluster. Thanks so much for laying stinkers on us like Cruisn USA, Spelunker, Operation Wolf and Powerball pals.

It isn’t all sour grapes. I’m grateful to finally have Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, StarTropics and Harvest Moon.

And now for your viewing pleasure, video tips for beating the bosses on each level of StarTropics. This will ease the pain.

IRATE Gamer Shoots Down Super C (Contra 2) for NES

It’s the original Contra with double the enemies, coming at you from every direction. You are tortured by items you can’t reach and to top it all off the 30 lives code has been replaced by a 10 lives code. That’s awesome if you are Rambo.

IRATE Gamer is pretty funny and entertaining although he doesn’t tickle my fancy nearly as much as Angry Nintendo Nerd.

The history of Arc Hound becoming Contra Force is very interesting and redeems IRATE of most of his try-hard antics. It has some wild but flawed features. You can switch characters during the game… A second computer controlled player fights with you for five seconds.

Outnerd the Nerd - Bill and Ted NES Video Review

Yes, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Video Game Adventure blows.

In this hilarious video, the reviewer (DrewDogHimself) slams LJN. They are responsible for this crappy game in particular and are quite possibly the poorest game developer for the 8-bit era. Why in the world would you want to save Al Capone? Indeed, Drew… indeed.
